27 Oct Investment in youth projects – 10 % increase in funding from Budget 2017
Minister says extra funding provided in Budget 2017 will help young people in Tallaght
Children and teenagers in Tallaght will benefit from a 10% jump in funding for youth services, according to Dublin South West Independent TD and Minister for Children, Dr Katherine Zappone.
The Independent Minister says most of the €57m in funding she secured in Budget 2017 will be targeted at areas like Tallaght where there are big young populations.
The Minister says local services which are playing a vital role in supporting young people in their communities will be prioritised.
- The 10% increase in funding which has been secured in Budget 2017 will bring direct benefits to young people in Tallaght and communities across the country.
- Additional €5.5m is being made available, which reverses the cutbacks of recent years.
- Existing Youth Projects and Services in our communities can look forward to an additional 5% in funding to be ploughed into youth cafes, sport, arts and services for those teens who face particular challenges.
“In Dublin South West I continue to be hugely impressed by the impact frontline services are having through community activities and vital supports for those young people who need them most.Volunteers and staff are transforming young lives and giving many an opportunity to start again. This funding must be used to support that existing frontline work and also to identify challenges which are not currently being met.I look forward to continuing my engagement not only with youth organisations nationally but with children and teenagers on the ground to hear their views on how we should progress.”
